Answers to Top 5 Air Travel Questions
Published Tuesday, January 3rd 2017 - Updated Thursday, August 17th 2017Listed below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about air travel.
1) What are the cheapest days to fly?
Booking flights for travel mid-week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – will give you best deals. This is due primarily because business people are usually flying on Mondays and Fridays, and families are usually flying on Saturdays and Sundays.
2) What is the best day to book a flight?
Sundays tend to be the best day to get good prices for air fare. In the past, Tuesday was the best day but that has changed in recent years to Sunday.
3) How far in advance should airfare be booked?
Most air carriers release their flight schedules 331 days out and if you can plan your travel several months in advance it is likely you will find very good fares. If you can’t plan several months in advance, you should make every effort to book at least 21 days in advance of the day you want to travel. As the date for your travel gets closer, you will encounter higher fares and fewer available seats.
4) Do airfares tend to be less if I stay over a weekend?
Yes. Fares are often lower when you include a Saturday night stay between your flights.
5) When do I need to be at the airport prior to my flight?
It is recommended that you be at the airport 2 hours prior to a domestic flight and 3 hours prior to an international flight.
